Yes, you heard it right, a diet made up of cabbage soup. But don’t go writing it off just yet, as there is so much more to this diet than first meets the eye. One thing is for sure is that this 7 day diet has had its fair share of doubters, but if done correctly it has been proven this diet can work a treat, and even taste a bit like one too…
How Does The Cabbage Soup Diet Work
Well, it's quite self-explanatory really. For a week, you eat low-calorie cabbage soup and there is no limit to how much cabbage soup you can actually eat. Although this may sound somewhat gluttonous, a typical bowl of cabbage soup contains no more than 90 calories deeming it very unlikely that any pounds will be added. This is one of the main reasons why this diet is so effective, as you can fill yourself up and still lose weight due to the very low calorie consumption.
No prizes will be awarded for guessing the ingredients of this diet; cabbage is of course the fundamental element of the soup. However, don’t let this disturb you. Just because you’re eating the soup every day doesn’t mean your taste buds have to endure day after day of bland soup, there are many ways round this problem.
Although before beginning the diet you may have been the worlds biggest cabbage soup fan, if the flavor isn’t altered every few days, you can be certain that before the 7 days are up you’ll be hoping to never set eyes on those green monsters again. There is a way round this dilemma though and people overcome it in different ways. A good idea is to explore the continents. You can instantly give a normal cabbage soup a South-Western flavor by adding cumin, red pepper flakes and cilantro, an Italian flavor by using rosemary, thyme and oregano, and an Indian feel by adding spice such as chilli powder. Of course, this isn’t an expired list, the opportunities are endless but the simple fact is that cabbage soup is as exciting as you make it.
Now, although it may be called ‘The Cabbage Soup Diet’, cabbage soup isn’t strictly the only thing that you can eat through the 7 days. Here is a 7 day plan of how the diet looks…
Day 1 –
On day one you can eat as much fruit as you like (except Bananas). For sustenance, eat only fruit, and of course the Cabbage Soup. As far as drinking is concerned, water is the best thing you can have. Artificially sweetened drinks are a no-go but fresh Juice, especially Cranberry juice is good.
Day 2 –
Vegetables. Vegetables. And more vegetables. No fruit today but eat as many vegetables as you can along with your soup. Eat them until you are stuffed. If possible try and eat leafy green vegetables and steer away from dry beans, peas and corn. At dinner, after a veggie fueled day, reward yourself with a big baked potato with butter. You deserve it. Drink plenty of water.
Day 3 –
This day is simple really. Mix Days One and Two: eating all the soup, fruits and vegetables you desire. No baked potato today however. Drink plenty of h20, wasser, l’eau, also known as water. It’s so good for you.
Day 4 –
Today is the day of Bananas and Skimmed Milk. As well as your soup, you may eat up to as many as eight bananas and drink as many glasses of skimmed milk as you would like. This day is supposed to lessen your desire for sweets, and wean you onto more natural sugars.
Day 5 –
If you like Beef and Tomatoes, then today is your lucky day: You can have from ten to twenty ounces of beef and up to six fresh tomatoes. Drink at least 6 glasses of water to ensure the uric acid is flushed from your system. Eat your soup at least once this day. You may eat broiled or baked chicken instead of beef (but not chicken with skin on). If you would prefer, broiled fish can be substituted for beef on one of the beef days (but not for both).
Day 6 –
Is there such a thing as too much beef? Today you could even have 3 steaks if you wanted, along with nice leafy green vegetables. Eat your soup at least once.
Day 7 –
Brown rice + unsweetened fruit juices and vegetables: Once more, you may eat to your hearts content. Also, make certain that you eat your soup at least once on this day.
To Infinity and beyond…
An excellent short term diet it may be, however, the Cabbage Soup Diet is not suitable if you want to achieve long-term weight loss. The diet is a low-fat, high-fiber diet that will help you get into shape quickly before you begin a more moderate long-term eating plan. Many struggle in long-term plans due to lack of willpower, however there are easy ways round this.
Skinny Fiber
is a product definitely worth looking at. Skinny Fiber is a completely natural weight loss supplement, made entirely from natural ingredients. 2 of the supplements are to be consumed with water (water is essential) before each meal, and this dramatically reduces hunger, thus meaning you eat less food. If this is done on a regular basis, weight loss is inevitable and Skinny Fiber has been proven to work for many people who previously had no success with weight loss.
